To purchase PanoMan for your device, please visit ‘Get PanoMan’ on panoman.net. Carefully enter the details of your phone (device type, phone and IMEI number).
Please make sure that the phone number is entered in the international format (+49 1234567890) including the country code.

When pressing “Buy now” you are being transfered to the PayPal site where you need to login and accept the payment (you can also select which payment method you want to use).
Depending on the payment method you will receive a SMS with a download link and a registration code either within 1 hour after your purchase or (if you e.g. chose debit card) when we received the amount from your account.

To find out the IMEI number of your phone, enter *#06# just like you would type in a phone number and the IMEI will display. You may also open the battery compartment and should find the 15 digit number there.

It is currently possible to purchase PanoMan via PayPal directly at PanoMan.net. Other options will follow in the future.

You can conveniently use PayPal to purchase your copy of PanoMan on this site. If you do not own an account yet, it is easy to open one on www.paypal.com. PayPal gives you different options to pay e.g. credit card, debit card or prepaid.

Please contact us at support [at] panoman.net providing your order ID and corrected phone/IMEI number and device type.

After we receive notice that your payment has been successfully processed, a SMS will be sent to the phone number you provided at order time, including a download link and your personal registration code. Please click on the link and the download should start. The file to download is around 270 kb in size.Please note that the download may involve costs for GPRS traffic from your mobile phone provider depending on your contract.

Alternatively, you may download PanoMan to your PC. Then proceed by sending the installation file to your mobile device via Bluetooth or cable conection and install it from the inbox afterwards. You may also use the Nokia PC Suite to directly iinstall the application to your phone.

After the download is completed, you are being lead through the installation process by the phone. Please make sure to uninstall older versions of PanoMan before installing the new one. Please follow the given instructions. Afterwards, PanoMan is available in the ‘Applications’ section (please refer to your phone’s manual for detailed info where installed applications can be accessed).
When you open PanoMan for the first time, you will be prompted for a registration code. Please enter the code you received with the download link.

PanoMan is currently translated into the following languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Chinese (simplified and traditional). If your phone is set to one of these languages, PanoMan will automatically be installed in that language. If PanoMan’s languages do not match the phone language, the application will be started in English.

Capturing high quality panoramic images depends very much on the scene you capture and the way you move during capturing.

Best results are achieved, if the captured scene

• has enough details (e.g. no white wall)

• is not too dark (increase of noise, no details)

• is not too dynamic (e.g car traffic, etc)

• is constantly lighted (no blinking lights etc)

During the capturing, the user should move slowly and continuously while viewfinder frames are processed and stop moving, when key frames are taken.

When capturing distant landscape scenes it is good to hold the device at arm-length and slowly turn on the spot. In contrast, when capturing nearby objects or indoor scenes, it is important to move the device as if it is attached to a tripod. Otherwise parallax effects might occur.

While moving, it is also important not to tilt or rotate the device with respect to the line of sight. In more technical words: the line of sight should always remain perpendicular to the rotation axis.

Last not least, note that perfect results cannot always be assured, but if you follow the mentioned guidelines and practice a bit, you will be able to capture great panoramas more easily and reliably

First, make sure not to capture objects which are too close to you (< 0.5 m). Also check that photos taken in (semi-) darkness may be more blurred than those in bright sunlight. On mobile devices with auto focus, blurry images might also occur, because the camera is not focused to infinity by default. Users with this problem should enable “Auto Focus” in the settings menu of PanoMan.

PanoMan is cleverly optimized for creating high-res panoramas even on devices with little memory. Nevertheless, the available resolutions of PanoMan depend on two effects, which cannot directly be influenced:

1. The available resolutions of the camera. Typical values are e.g. 640×480, 1024×786, 1280×960, 1600×1200 etc. These values are device dependent, e.g. the N95 offers up to 5 Megapixel images.
2. Tthe available application memory (RAM): The application memory is shared by all application processes which are running on your device. Typical values are between 12 MB up to 80MB (N95 8GB). Note that application memory does not depend on or increase with the size of the memory card.

Both points are determined from PanoMan dynamically at each program start and evaluated with a formula to determine the possible resolutions of PanoMan.

Now, the available application memory may vary strongly, for example, if other applications are running in the background. But it also varies non-deterministicly depending on the memory management of the Symbian operating system. The fact that the Symbian memory management cannot be controlled by applications like PanoMan may lead to varying resolutions at each start program start.

Advice: the available application memory is maximized after a fresh restart of the device. So you my consider rebooting for highest resolution panoramic images.
